Sixty years of serving Chinatown
More than sixty years ago, San Francisco’s Chinatown business and community leaders banded together to establish the Portsmouth Plaza Parking Corporation, a nonprofit. They saw that convenient, affordable parking would help the whole neighborhood’s economy, and they built it themselves.
On April 29, 2022, the Board of Directors hosted a formal dinner at the historic Far East Café to honor the milestone. The evening recognized the founding board members whose vision and leadership left such an important legacy for future generations, and launched a year of events commemorating the garage’s history since its 1962 opening.
