Accessibility

What we aim for

We build this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act.

What we have done

• Every page works with a keyboard alone, and the focus outline is visible on every surface.
• Every image carries a text description. The construction notice is a photograph, so its full text is repeated in its description.
• Text contrast is measured, not estimated. Body text, links, and buttons meet or exceed the 4.5:1 minimum.
• Headings run in order, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
• Chinese names on the English pages are marked as Chinese, so a screen reader pronounces them correctly.
• The site respects the “reduce motion” setting in your operating system.
• No pop-ups, no auto-playing media, no time limits, and no accessibility overlay widget.

Where we may still fall short

We would rather tell you this plainly than claim more than we have earned. We test with automated tools and by keyboard. We have not yet completed testing with people who use screen readers daily. Some older photographs in the exhibition gallery are described briefly rather than in full detail. If either of these affects you, please tell us.

Accessibility at the garage itself

Dedicated spaces for disabled placards are on the Main Entrance level, near the restrooms. An elevator connects the garage to Portsmouth Square. Maximum vehicle height is 6 feet 8 inches, so standard vans fit but high-top vans do not. If you need help on arrival, call us and someone will come.

We can also give you anything on this site in another format, read to you over the phone, in large print, or in Chinese. Just ask.
